Fundraising and Resource Development Strategies for Therapeutic Recreation Programs is an online, on-demand professional development workshop designed to help therapeutic recreation and activity professionals strengthen their programs through practical fundraising, partnership building, donor engagement, grant preparation, volunteer support, and sustainable resource planning.

Many therapeutic recreation and activity programs operate with limited budgets, reduced staffing, aging supplies, limited adaptive equipment, and increased participant needs. This workshop helps professionals move beyond “asking for donations” and toward strategic resource development that supports quality services, professional credibility, community involvement, and long-term program growth.

Participants will learn how to identify program needs, connect fundraising to therapeutic outcomes, build a case for support, develop partnerships, locate funding sources, organize donor and volunteer support, plan ethical fundraising activities, and evaluate fundraising success. The workshop also emphasizes how resource development advances the therapeutic recreation and activity profession by improving service delivery, increasing access, supporting inclusion, and strengthening the visibility of TR/activity services within the organization and community.

Goals

•          Explain the role of fundraising and resource development in advancing therapeutic recreation and activity services.

•          Identify program needs that can be supported through donations, grants, sponsorships, partnerships, volunteers, and in-kind resources.

•          Develop a clear case for support that connects resources to participant outcomes and quality of life.

•          Identify ethical considerations related to fundraising, donor communication, participant dignity, and program representation.

•          Describe practical fundraising strategies appropriate for therapeutic recreation and activity programs.

•          Identify potential community partners, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and grant sources.

•         Develop a basic resource development plan for a TR/activity program.

•          Explain how to evaluate fundraising success beyond dollars raised.

•          Demonstrate understanding through module knowledge checks and a final exam.
